Photo Of Desk

Warning This Section Does Contain Spoilers

This photo of a desk could easily be mistaken for a picture of Jasper's desk at Carte du Monde, but in the inspectors notes Meg tells us she has included this picture of her own personal desk as a way for us to get to know her better. After closer inspection we see that she has a book on photography from the 125th Anniversary Edition of the National Geographic, The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, and On Foot In the Grand Canyon by Sharon Spangler. Because there are no books on horology or time this leads me to believe that this is definitely Meg's desk. I believe Meg has the William Faulkner book to better understand her subject, Jasper. We know that Meg is a hiker because of her comment in the first letter about "hiking the M". This is in reference to the "M" on Mount Sentinel in Montana. Time brought several transformations to the "M." In 1912, a wooden letter replaced the one made of stone. When the wooden "M" was blown off the mountain in 1915, it was replaced with a more permanent, larger stone "M." That structure remained until 1968, when it was replaced with the concrete "M" we see today.
